 The world population is aging at an accelerated rate. People aged 65 and over now comprise a greater share of the world's population than ever before. It has been estimated that they comprise 13% of population in highly industrialized countries. Longevity of the world population will continue to increase due to improved health care technology, improvement in medicine and economic condition. It is projected that the elderly population will even be doubled in 2024.
As the population age of 65 and over continue to increase, more and more families will be faced with providing care for the elderly. Not discounting the fact that there is also a great demand for carers for children as both parents go to work. Likewise, there is also a great demand for health cares for people who are disabled and those with special needs. Realizing these facts, Philippine Health Caregivers' Institute (PHCI) was set up to face this problem.
Caregivers need formal training on how to deal with various diseases, behaviour, proper and correct body mechanics in taking care of patients. We at PHCI ensures that all our gradutes are well trained and competent, at par with international standards.
